Salt Strong Insider Kayak Fishing: Full & Half Day

Trip Overview

Hey there, fellow anglers! If you're a Salt Strong Insider Member looking for a top-notch kayak fishing experience, you've just hit the jackpot. We're talking about a full 8 hours on the water with one of our seasoned guides who knows these waters like the back of their hand. We kick things off bright and early, usually around 6 AM, but we're always keeping an eye on those tides and seasonal patterns to make sure we're hitting the water when the fish are most active. Whether you want to meet us at the launch or prefer a handy pick-up service, we've got you covered. Just keep in mind, this trip is for the 16 and up crowd to keep things safe and focused on the fishing. Oh, and heads up - the price covers one angler, so if you're bringing a buddy, there'll be an extra charge. Let's get out there and make some memories!

What to Expect on the Water

Alright, let's talk shop. When you hop in one of our kayaks, you're in for a real treat. We're not just paddling around aimlessly - we're on a mission to put you on some fish. Our guides are pros at reading the water, spotting those subtle signs that most folks miss. We'll be using a mix of techniques, from sight casting in the shallows to working deeper channels, all tailored to what's biting that day. You'll learn how to quietly maneuver your kayak to sneak up on those wary reds and trout without spooking them. And let me tell you, there's nothing quite like the rush of feeling that first tug on your line while you're seated just inches above the water. It's a whole different ballgame from bank fishing or even from a boat. Plus, we'll show you some killer spots that only kayaks can access - those hidden honey holes where the big ones love to hang out.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

You know what sets our kayak fishing charters apart? It's the personal touch, plain and simple. We're not about cramming as many folks as we can onto a big boat. Nope, this is all about you and the fish. Our guides are like walking (or should I say, paddling) encyclopedias of local fishing knowledge. They'll share tips and tricks that'll up your game whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned pro. And let's not forget the views - there's something special about being eye-level with the water, watching the sunrise as you paddle out. It's peaceful, sure, but it's also exciting as hell when you're reeling in a monster redfish from your kayak. Plus, as a Salt Strong Insider, you're already part of a community that's passionate about fishing. This trip is like the cherry on top of all that knowledge you've been soaking up. You'll get to put those skills to the test and maybe even learn a few new ones.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Let's talk about what's swimming around out there, starting with the sea trout. These guys are a blast to catch and even better to eat. They love to hang around grass flats and oyster bars, and they're suckers for a well-presented lure. In the cooler months, you might find them in deeper holes, but come summer, they're up in the shallows. The bite can be subtle, so keep that line tight!

Now, redfish - these are the bruisers of the inshore world. They'll test your drag and your patience, but man, is it worth it. Reds love to cruise the flats, often with their backs half out of the water. It's a sight that'll get your heart pumping every time. They're around all year, but fall is when they really show up in force. Nothing beats the thrill of sight-casting to a tailing red and watching it pounce on your lure.

Last but not least, we've got the southern flounder. These flatfish are masters of camouflage, blending in perfectly with the sandy bottom. They're ambush predators, so we'll target them around drop-offs and structure. The bite can be tricky to detect, but when you hook one, it's like reeling in a dinner plate. They're most active in the spring and fall, making those perfect times to add a flounder to your kayak.

Time to Book Your Spot

Alright, let's wrap this up. If you're a Salt Strong Insider looking to put all that knowledge to good use, this kayak fishing charter is calling your name. We're talking about a full day of one-on-one instruction, access to some of the best fishing spots around, and the chance to tangle with some real quality fish. Whether you're after that personal best trout, your first bull red, or just want to experience the thrill of kayak fishing, we've got you covered. Remember, spots fill up fast, especially during peak seasons, so don't wait to book. Give us a call, and let's get you out on the water. Trust me, once you've experienced fishing from a kayak, you'll be hooked for life. See you on the water!

Learn more about the species

Redfish

Redfish, or red drum, are one of our most popular inshore species. Adults average 28-33 inches and 8-10 pounds, but can grow much larger. Look for them cruising the shallows - often with their backs out of the water - around oyster bars, grass flats, and mangroves. They love to hang out in water just 1-4 feet deep. Spring and fall are great seasons, but we catch them year-round. Redfish put up a strong, steady fight and often make exciting topwater strikes. Their copper-red color and distinctive tail spot make for great photos too. These fish are excellent table fare with a mild, sweet flavor. When sight fishing, I like to use gold spoons - the flash really gets their attention in clear water. Just remember to make an accurate cast well in front of the fish to avoid spooking them.

Redfish

Sea Trout

Sea Trout, also known as spotted seatrout, are a popular inshore game fish found along coastal waters, bays, and estuaries. Known for their speckled bodies and aggressive strikes, they offer exciting action for anglers of all experience levels. Sea trout typically weigh 1–5 pounds but can grow much larger. Whether caught on live bait or artificial lures, they’re prized both for their fight and their flavor. These fish are commonly targeted from spring through fall and are especially active during early morning hours.

Sea Trout

Southern Flounder

Southern flounder are ambush predators that lie camouflaged on the bottom, waiting to pounce on prey. They typically run 15-18 inches and 2-5 pounds, though trophy fish can hit 20+ pounds. You'll find them in coastal bays, estuaries, and nearshore waters, often buried in sandy or muddy bottoms. Fall is prime time as they migrate offshore to spawn. Flounder fishing requires finesse - we'll drift or anchor over likely spots, using light tackle with live bait or soft plastics. The bite is subtle, so stay alert for that telltale tap. Anglers enjoy the challenge of hooking these flatfish, plus they're some of the best eating fish around. Here's a pro tip: when you feel a bite, resist the urge to set the hook right away. Give the flounder a few seconds to fully take the bait before reeling. Patience pays off with these tasty bottom-dwellers.
